Mommy Rant: What is really ruining our children

I am so tired of hearing about how Miley Cyrus is ruining our children; about how music or movies or video games are RUINING our children. The truth behind what is really ruining our children is so much closer to home... like living under the same roof.
Parents are ruining children.
Whoa, whoa, Tina. That is a bit of a shocking statement. But it's something that I believe to be true. I don't mean it in a pointing the finger, blame-blame-blame, sort of way. I mean it like, we're failing our children... similarly to how our parents failed us, and their parents failed them before - BUT it's not too late for us to do something about it.
Instead of saying the slutty antics of a young pop star are ruining the girls of today, take some responsibility. Instead of saying that video games are making our children more violent, take some responsibility. Instead of saying that TV is teaching our children to be more greedier or less moral, take.some.responsibility.
YOU are in charge of how your children spend their free time. YOU are in charge of what your children dress in. YOU are in charge of what games they play or what they watch. YOU. It is your job as a parent to give your children the tools to make good decision when it is THEIR time to be in charge of themselves. In the meantime, YOU are their guide through life. YOU build up their self esteem so when their are young adults they KNOW that they don't need to wear revealing clothing and twerk (excuse me, I just have to say, twerking sounds like something a meth addict does right as they're od'ing) all over some random person. YOU teach them when they are young that violence is wrong. YOU teach them that they are worth it; they are smart enough, beautiful enough, brave enough. It's YOU. You teach these little humans how to be EXCELLENT people of the world one day.
We need to stop with the everyone wins bullshit. Because life isn't like that. There will always be winners and losers, but what we need more of is GRACEFUL winners and losers. We need to stop with the baby'ing. As things lay right now, the generations coming up will have absolutely no idea how to make a decision or think for themselves. We need to stop with the excuses. Our kids are capable of... ANYTHING. But when we hold their hand through life, make excuses for them and never let them fall, the chances of them doing anything truly meaningful to them is zip... because nothing is truly meaningful. Our children need to learn how to think on their own, to question the status quo and how to influence positive change, but they won't learn how to make change, if us parents are always wiping their asses. Stop bubblewrapping your kids. They need to fall once in awhile, to learn how to balance on their own two feet.
End rant.

Sorry, every now and then a little ranty bubble bursts forth and needs to be put into words. Do you think this is a bit of a harsh outlook? What are your thoughts?
