Battle of the Breakfast

I hate breakfast. Maybe that is too strong an expression; I serisouly dislike that I NEED to eat breakfast every day. I have been skipping my 'most important meal of the day' since about 6th grade. It has become such an ingrained habit to NOT eat breakfast that I mentally struggle with it every single day. An amazing trainer (Jo, from Jo Dumont Fitness Training) has tried to bang breakfast into my head a couple times now. I had asked her about working out first thing in the morning recently and her reply was pretty eye opening:

"This is what your schedule looks like to your body. You feed it at 6 p.m. You might feed it a snack at 9. You go to bed. While you are sleeping, your body is using those calories to keep your organs running, your body regenerating and recovering. Then you get up. The fuel you've given it is gone. But you go ahead with your morning routine anyway. This will not result in weight loss. It will result in screwing your metabolism up. What your body is going to start doing (if it hasn't already) is storing everything that you put into it in anticipation of all of the activity that is coming up without having food."

So I understand the concept. I know that food is fuel and you need a certain amount of fuel solely to keep your body alive, besides all other physically activity. If I understand all this - than WHY do I continually struggle with giving myself enough fuel? This week I've changed up my schedule a bit - I restarted the 6 week challenge (this time on hard) and I workout after breakfast or after I've put my little monkey down for his nap. I've eaten breakfast every day so far this week and I'm feeling pretty good about it! I hope one day this breakfast deal becomes as much of a habit as not eating it - because it's nice to not feel exhausted all the time!

  1. Don't "hope" Tina! Just decide that you aren't going to do what you've done in the past, because it hasn't worked. You're doing it...keep doing it! You totally have this. 6 week challenge on Hard? Soon you'll have to change your blog to "Machine Mommy"!
