4 Month Wonder Week

Photo: We have a finger sucker!
My small child has turned into a jerk. He's decided he no longer likes to sleep... EVER. He only wants to eat for a couple minutes at a time, before getting distracted, but then he's hungry again 45 minutes later. He wants to be held, until you're holding him, then he wants to be standing, until you put him in the exasaucer or jumperoo, then he wants to be held again... you get the picture. J.E.R.K.

Then I discovered some information on wonder weeks and the 4 month sleep regression. A little light bulb  lashed above my noggin!

Apparently, this wonder week/regression typically can last anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks. During this time, many babies who were once sleeping through the night or going down easily for naps all of a sudden have issues. Thus creating this downward spiral of poor sleep, poor eating, poor mommy. BUT, when they emerge from this jerkdom, they come out of it with a bunch of new skills. Could this be what we're dealing with?!?

I think so! Over the last week, Sawyer has started to grab toys and purposefully put them to his mouth. He's discovered his toes and grabbed them a couple times. He's rolling even more, and with more purpose than "ack I hate being on my tummy!". He's "talking" more and seems to be experimenting with sounds, volume and the amount of spit that can come out of his mouth. He is even starting to move a little bit while on his tummy (scooches and pulls his body around a bit to face a toy he wants or to get my attention). That's quite a bit of development! So maybe I can forgive him for his jerkiness... but this sleep deprived mommy is ready for a night of sleep again.
