As a mum, there is very little that I do that is just for me. That is completely the case with becoming a healthier person. I don't (often) eat chips, not because they're not good for me, but because my children watch what I put in my body. I don't run or workout because I absolutely LOVE it (although I usually at least like it once I'm doing it), I do it because my children see that I need to move my body. I try not to pick out my flaws and berate myself, not because I shouldn't (I know I shouldn't), but because I don't want my children to think that that is a 'normal' dialogue they should have with themselves.
Today I ran my second race of the year, and my little guy ran right along with me. I have never been so proud. He ran the entire time, actually zigzagging along the sidewalks and pathways (so he probably did about double the km's!). I think I slowed him up today! After the race there was a kids fitness obstacle course set up; my little dude just had to have a go through it. I watched as he curled some weights, did a pushup and even some crunches and thought to myself "way to go mama!". He wouldn't know how to do any of those, if he hadn't seen me do them at some point. He wouldn't want to run, if he hadn't seen me do a race and talk about how much fun I had had. He wouldn't have chosen the banana over a granola bar, unless he'd seen me do the same.
I'd say this is definitely a win for the mommy!
