5th Birthday Extravaganza

My little man turned 5. The last five years have gone by so quickly. I really wish there was a pause button - especially for super special days like this weekend. I would have loved for this weekend to go buy in slow motion and capture every last second of it. But alas, in the way of children, time sped up to an incredible speed, and before I realized it we were at the end of the birthday weekend extravaganza!
So here is a little pictorial  blog on our birthday celebrations:

Friday: Jiggley Boy started his day with a balloon avalanche. It was quickly followed by "bwoobie twaps" up the stairs - which were really hands (high fives!) with sappy stuff like "mommy loves you" draped across the stairs with crepe paper.

Next we had a special birthday request for Sprinkles Waffles, so I busted out the good ol' waffle iron and made the boys some waffles. The birthday boy even got a candle and made his 5th birthday wish.

For lunch we had tyed-dyed grilled cheese sandwiches, which were a hit!

To do it: pour a little milk into a shallow dish, drop food colouring in the milk, and give it a gentle swirl with a toothpick. Now quickly lay your bread on the surface of the milk - don't let it soak up too much milk, otherwise you'll have really soggy bread. So you can leave it out to dry and make any sort of sandwich you want, or toss it right into a frying pan with some cheese and make a grilled cheese. FUN!

Sunday: I wish I had gotten more pictures of the party. It was sooo much fun - and just a bit on the chaotic side, as any 5th birthday party should be.

Ninja masks and throwing stars for all the mini ninjas!
The ninja balance beam
We had a ninja training obstacle course that was a HUGE hit with the kids. They had to walk across a balance beam that teetered, the into the laser house (the playhouse with streamers taped up - they had to climb over and under them to get out), then they had to practice their ninja roll, then onto the over/unders (pool noodles!), then they had to crawl under the 'tunnel' (my laundry dry rack, covered with my yoga mat lol) and finally they had to get the bad guys (helium balloons, stacked to the ground, with mean faces on them). We had balloon swords (non of which survived much past lunch, I believe), ninja stars to decorate and toss, masks and everyone took home a certificate saying they finished ninja training. We had so much fun and I hope our guests enjoyed themselves too!

Our super fun villain friend! He was a big hit with the kids!
over/unders - pool noodles staked to the ground (oh and backwards shorts, that's my special lil ninja!)
